Arteando & Platicando: A Collective Art Show is part of a doctoral dissertation in Higher Education Leadership focused on the intersections of art education and the entrepreneurship journey of seven Latina visual artists.
This collective art show is the third and final stage of an art-based research doctoral dissertation focused on the art education and entrepreneurship journeys of seven Latina visual artists. This study uses pláticas, grounded in relational and cultural knowledge-sharing (Fierros & Delgado Bernal, 2016), as the foundation for each research phase.
The research was conducted in three parts: (1) one-on-one pláticas (entrada) exploring each artist’s personal and professional trajectory; (2) a Saturday Arteando y Platicando session fostering collective dialogue, creativity, and amistad (friendship); and (3) this culminating public art exhibit (despedida), which centers the lived experiences and artistic narratives of Latina visual artists through familial, aspirational, social, navigational, and resilient forms of cultural wealth (Yosso, 2005).
